  • Regions are geographical areas
  • Availability Zone AZ are isolated location within regions that own resources such as compute and storage
  • Local Zone an extension of Region for local low latency connections
    • limited compared to AZ, e.g. Local Zone supports EC2, EBS, VPC, but S3, Aurora etc are only in AZ
  • Outpost is AWS infrastructure and services in any data-center including on-prem
